Welcome to the Global Drought Observatory!


This system is the onset of a Global Drought Observatory (GDO) mainly targeting at emergency response issues. Focus is on a Map Viewer and an information rich report. GDO is developed by the team of the European Drought Observatory ( EDO ). Some services you can find on the web service focusing on Europe. For example heat waves and low flows are only reported there. Also Drought observatories for South and Central America (SCADO) and Africa (ADO) have been developed by the EDO team.
WARNING ! - Due to an issue in the provision of MODIS source data, since October 2022 fAPAR and fAPAR Anomaly are computed with VIIRS source data. For the same reason, since the second monthly window of November 2022, the Ensemble Soil Moisture Anomaly (SMA) misses the MODIS Land Surface Temperature component and is computed with two components only (2M-ensemble). By consequence, the RDrI-Agri is computed with VIIRS fAPAR Anomaly since October 2022 and with 2M-ensemble SMA since the third 10-day period of November 2022.
