The source is presenting a webpage of Republic Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia with information about moisture conditions on the basis of Standard precipitation Index (SPI).Moisture/drought conditions are monitored operationally by applying Standardized precipitation index (SPI) on the basis of collected daily precipitation data (P) from the network of main meteorological stations of RHMSS. SPI for previous 60 days is regularly mapped on the weekly basis.Mapping procedure that RHMSS utilize is not fully automatizated, so some amount of manual work is needed.Operative SPI calculation in RHMSS is performed by Microsoft Excel sheets and functions. Precipitation data received by SYNOP are regularly imported to this Excel sheets.

Operative SPI calculations are performed on the basis of daily precipitation data regularly submitted from 29 synoptic stations and statistical parameters derived from historical precipitation data. Complete data for the period 1961‐2005 exist for the twenty five stations. For the purpose of statistical parameters calculation, previous interpolation of missing data was carried out in case of three of remaining stations. Regional climate model (Regionalen Klimamodells on the basis of FITNAH) was used. Operative calculations are performed after expiration of each month. Besides this, the calculation of SPI values for 1,2,3,6 and 12 months are preformed on the basis of precipitation during previous 30, 60 and 90 days and statistical parameters for given part of the year. These are one day step calculations.
Resolution distance used on maps;1x1 km (approximately) for GRID calculation (interpolation - ordinary Kriging).
Unit of measure used on maps; Axis: Lat/Lon (degrees, minutes – not presented in fact) SPI has not unit. 11 interval of SPI values – more precisely: 10 SPI values which are selected as boundaries between moisture condition categories are presented as lines(see table on resurce website).
