In the forecasting mode the European Flood Alert System produces information on the development of soil moisture in Europe for up to ten days ahead. The trend map of soil moisture describes qualitatively the change in soil moisture, currently between today and the seventh day ahead. Soil moisture trend data calculated using Soil Moisture Index SMI are available online from 2019-01-01 daily. This product is still under development. JRC makes no warranties regarding the correctness of the data and disclaims any liability for inconveniencies resulting from its use.

7-day forecast of Daily Soil Moisture: LISFLOOD modelled two surface layers (skin layer and root zone) separately for forested and other layers. These four soil moisture layers are averaged to derive
a single mean root zone soil moisture conditions to be successively standardized into Soil Moisture Index (SMI) for Europe in the original 5 km resolution. Information is presented where reliable data on the soil properties are available.

LISFLOOD Model for Soil Moisture Map Production: Data produced by the JRC EFAS group. Assessment: model run for flood prediction - Meteorological input from MARS AGRI4CAST dataset produced by the MARS unit of the JRC. Periodicity: daily. Availability: through registration of the service. Assessment: processed by the JRC. - Daily Soil Moisture Data: Data produced JRC. Periodicity: daily. Availability: through the EDO map server. Assessment: product derived from LISFLOOD model results and Meteorological Input from JRC MARS AGRI4CAST. Time period of availability: since 1990.
The color scheme for the soil moisture map is ranging from green (wet) to light pink (dry).
